Hey Chillout,

LootRank is simply two things: a database of gear in WoW, and a calculator.

Near the top of the main page you will see many boxes, some with numbers and some with checkboxes. You use these to specify which kinds of gear you want to see, and how LootRank should assign values to each piece of gear, and then LootRank will automatically order then from highest value to lowest, by slot.

LootRank will take all the values you put in, calculate the total value for each piece of gear in each slot, and show you the gear starting with the highest total value.

Try for example weighting EVERYTHING at 0, except Stamina at 1:

http://www.lootrank.com/wr.asp?Cla=32767&Max=10&Gem=3&Str=&Sta=1&Agi=&Int=&Spi=&Ver=6

which will show you every piece of gear you should wear if ALL YOU CARED ABOUT was Stamina. This isn't a realistic scenario, though.

There are some sample class stat-weighting templates at http://www.lootrank.com/templates.asp

In general, you will want to do some thinking or research about your own personal stat-weightings for your character / class / gear / role, and when you plug them into LootRank, it will tell you which gear best matches your preferred gear stats.

The goal is to optimize the gear your character wears to best perform whichever role you perform: Tank, DPS, or Heal.

Keep in mind that even though you might play a DPS or Healer, it doesn't necessarily mean you don't want or need Stamina. While most high level gear comes automatically with a healthy portion of stamina (and so many DPS'ers will choose to weight it with 0 points), every character needs some Stamina. The same may go for other classes, too. Mages with mana issues might choose to weigh Spirit or Mp5 more heavily.

You would simply put a larger number in the Armor Pen box than in the Crit rating box, and you would put a larger number in the AGI box than in the STR box. Some research goes a long way in determining accurate "Effective Attack Power" values for each class, which you could then enter into LootRank to get accurate results of which gear will more greatly increase your DPS. The forums at Elitist Jerks ( http://elitistjerks.com/forums.php ) is a great source of theorycrafting for accurately modeling DPS class mechanics and maximizing DPS.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you for the info in that reply but what about not wanting a stat at all to show up. I am a resto druid and leave anything with Hit for the DPS casters and take Haste and crit but even with Hit at 0 i still get items with Hit on the list. I figure it is because the item has other stats such as SP, etc that show up, but woould be great to put -1 and override and have anything with Hit not be displayed... maybe there is a way to do this or maybe i am seeing this wrong...

thanks in advance for your reply!!

Hey Spyderpig,

You hit the nail on the head -- put a negative weighting in for Hit if you REALLY don't want to see it on your gear. In my personal opinion, you might as well leave the weight at 0, as you might respec, or you might stumble on an epic that IS better for you, just is such a higher iLvL that it happens to have +Hit as well -- doesn't mean you absolutely can't use it to heal...

(in fact there are several circumstances where healers can benefit greatly from +Hit, a pally hammering something, a priest fearing, a shaman wind shocking, a druid cycloning or rooting, or even more crucial is a priest Mind Controlling adds on Instructor Razuvious -- while you might generally keep a couple hit pieces as backup to help you in these weird circumstances, I don't see why you have to weight +Hit negatively)

But for kicks, try putting in something like

SpellPower = 1
Haste = 1
INT = 1
Spirit = 1
Mp5 = 1
Crit = 0.5 (if you're a resto druid crit helps you proportionally less)
Hit = -10 (negative!)

Spyderpig's Resto Drood (no hit!)

and I guarantee you won't see any DPS caster hit gear :D

Play with the stat weights as you begin to understand a great deal about your mechanics, though the above link will be a fine place to start. Be sure to filter out gear you don't really have access to (perhaps Ulduar 25 or Conquest badges) and you'll see which heroics have great healing pieces, and what bosses to cross your fingers on when you run Naxx.

Hope this helps!
